Together with a Moscow and Paris-based gallery Iragui, Temnikova & Kasela will take part in the ninth instalment of Art Dubai art fair from the 18th until the 21st of March 2015. The Russian gallery Iragui will present works by Pavel Pepperstein, who represented his country at the 2009 Venice Biennial; Temnikova & Kasela will show new paintings by Kaido Ole.
The gallery is proud to announce that it is now representing artist Jaanus Samma. Tallinn-based Samma’s body of work includes photographs, installations and videos concerned with the urban space, subjective experiences of it, and investigations into the representations of male sexuality. At the Estonian Academy of the Arts, where the artist is attending a PhD program since 2011, he is mapping out gay narratives in Soviet Estonia as part of his artistic research, which includes interviews and archive research but also more subjective and artistic output produced based on the findings. Samma was the recipient of the 2013 Köler Prize and will represent Estonia at the 56th Venice Biennale. Read a recent interview with the artist published by Art in America magazine here. The gallery will represent Samma at the upcoming Liste Art Fair in Basel, which will take place from the 16th until the 21st of June 2015.
Flo Kasearu will show her exhibition “Uprising” at FUGA, Budapest Center of Architecture from the 25th of March until the 30th of April. The exhibition was first presented at Temnikova & Kasela gallery in 2015; images of the show in Tallinn and press release available here. Kasearu will give an artist talk at the Budapest venue on the 25th of March at 6pm, where the artist will talk about her ongoing House Museum project.
During this year’s Sequences VII real time art festival, taking place from the 10th until the 19th of April in Reykjavik, Kris Lemsalu will show a project entitled "Fine with afterlife”. The artist will present a complex spatial installation which will incorporate a performance. Established in 2006, Sequences is an independent visual art biennial focused on time-based mediums.

On the 30th of May 2014, Temnikova & Kasela invites you to a 12-hour-long evening of openings and events.
Temnikova & Kasela Gallery has the pleasure of inviting you to the opening of Andrius Zakarauskas' first solo exhibition in Estonia and to a small celebration of gallery 4th birthday on Thursday, 21st of August at 7 pm.
Temnikova & Kasela will present a series of new paintings by Latvian artist Inga Meldere and sculptural piece by Estonian artist Kris Lemsalu at this year’s Viennafair, which will take place from the 2nd until the 5th of October. It will be the forth time that the gallery participates in the fair, where it has previously represented both Lemsalu and Meldere. Vienna is also a familiar landscape for the former as Lemsalu had studied there at the Academy of Fine Arts.
Artist Marko Mäetamm’s lithograph “Money” (pictured) was sold for seven thousand euros during Christie’s charity auction in Moscow last month. The auction took place during Cosmoscow art fair, September 19-21, and was organised in collaboration with the fair and Natalia Vodjanova’s Naked Heart foundation. Temnikova & Kasela took part in Cosmoscow showing works by Marko Mäetamm, Kaido Ole ja Dan Mitchell.
Merike Estna's exhibition consisting of the artist’s own solo show “The Blue Lagoon” and a group show “I’m A Painting” curated by Estna, is on show at the KUMU art museum until the 2nd of November. On the 4th of September, the artist presented a book project „Dear I’m a Painting / Always Yours Blue Lagoon”, which continues the dialogues started in the exhibition and will feature documentation of both parts of the exhibition, installation process, opening and Estna’s wearable paintings. The book was designed by Indrek Sirkel with documentation photography by Anu Vahtra. On the 1st of November 2 to 3pm, Estna will give an artist talk at the museum which will be followed by a performance. Estna also plans to release her second artist book at the end of the month.
Estonian artist Kaido Ole was featured in the Thames & Hudson published book “100 Painters of Tomorrow”. Authored by Kurt Beers, Director of Beers Contemporary, the publication introduces and presents the work of painters selected by an international panel. The book will be officially launched on the 30th of October in London and at Ryder Street Gallery at Christie’s on King’s Street, and on the 6th of November in New York at One Art Space in Tribeca. Both events will be accompanied by exhibitions at the respective galleries, the latter featuring work by Kaido Ole.
Temnikova & Kasela gallery is pleased to invite you to the opening of Edith Karlson’s first solo show at the gallery, “Drama Is In Your Head: Don’t Look Down”. The artist’s work has been previously shown at T&K gallery in an exhibition produced in collaboration with Kris Lemsalu, “Being Together” (2012). The new show follows the Karlson’s recent solo exhibitions at Tallinn City Gallery and Hobusepea Gallery. Entitled “Drama Is In Your Head II” and “Drama Is In Your Head III” respectively (both 2013), these consecutive shows continued a thread started with “Drama Is In Your Head I” that was first shown at the Stalker Festival in Tallinn (2011), and later in Berlin (2012).
Gallery’s artist Merike Estna is nominated for this years Konrad Mägi Prize alongside Raoul Kurvitz, Laura Põld ja Tõnis Saadoja. The prize worth 3200 euros is awarded by the Estonian Artists’ Association, Estonian Painters’ Union and Estonian Cultural Endowment’s foundation for visual and applied arts. Since 1979, the prize has been awarded to important Estonian artists, including Temnikova & Kasela represented artists Kaido Ole and Jaan Toomik. The prize winner will be announced on the 27th of November. The jury consists of Mari Roosvalt and Jaan Elken Eesti (Painters’ Union), Anu Liivak and Maria Arusoo (Cultural Endowment), Vano Allsalu ja Elin Kard (Artists’ Association).
Temnikova & Kasela will participate in NADA Miami art fair from the 4th until the 7th of December 2014. The gallery booth number 2.62 will be located in the Napoleon room. The gallery will show works by three of its artists: Marko Mäetamm’s paintings produced during his residency at Fountainhead past September; installation by Merike Estna and works by Sigrid Viir.
In October, artists Marko Mäetamm’s and Kaido Ole’s pop-up show “Meaning of Life” was hosted by art collectors Ayşe Umur and Agah Uğur in Istnbul. The installation included Ole’s paintings, Mäetamm’s comic artworks from the series “Painting & Waiting,” and new lithography works that will be presented to a wider audience during NADA Miami Beach art fair this December. The Istanbul event was focused on local art collectors and included an artist talk moderated by the NEV gallery director Ibrahim Cansizoglu. Following the reception and the artist talk, the exhibition was invited to be a part of the Contemporary Istanbul fair VIP program.
This year’s Konrad Mägi Prize was awarded to gallery’s artist Merike Estna. The artist received the prize for her exhibition “Blue Lagoon” and curator exhibition “I’m a Painting” at the KUMU art museum (2014). According to Estonian Artists’ Association’s website, Merike Estna’s solo show and curator exhibition (co-curated with Kati Ilves) defined painting through the dimensions of space, installation and site-specificity, creating a new and eloquent setting. Previously, the prize has been awarded to gallery artists Kaido Ole (2012) and Jaan Toomik (2005).

Next March, Temnikova & Kasela will take part in Art Dubai art fair presenting a project of the gallery artist Kaido Ole developed in dialogue with artworks by an established Moscow post-conceptualist Pavel Pepperstein, who is represented at this event by Iragui gallery, Moscow. This will be the ninth instalment of the fair, which takes part each year in March and hosts a variety of events, including commissioned works and a non-profit programme. The fair will take place during Art Week.
